Legendary Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek died yesterday of bile duct cancer. The founding member of the Doors was 74. When the Doors of the 21st Century played North Bay’s Heritage Festival in 2005 I had the chance to interview Manzarek. Here he is talking about how he and Jim Morrison formed The Doors.
You may have heard me talk about how predictable Hollywood has become, with its long parade of remakes and sequels. Don’t get me wrong. I love superhero movies as much as the next guy, but how many do we really need? The Green Lantern anyone? Is a remake of Carrie, Robocop or Point Break really a must-see? Certainly there are exceptions to the rule; movies that tackle new concepts or story lines. Inception and Django Unchained are recent movies that come to mind that offer a new concept or a twist on an existing genre. I saw this trailer this morning and it blew my mind. What a cool idea for a movie. Check out the promo for the new movie The Purge for yourself.
Snooker matches have always seemed so stuffy to me. Although I admire the talent of the players, I’ve often thought the mood needed some lightening. Maybe that’s what this guy had in mind?
North Bay’s John McGale is back in town this weekend for a special gig at Partners Billiards. John’s show with the Ducharme Family Band goes Saturday night at 7:00 at Partners. The show is a fundraiser for the Make A Wish Foundation. Saturday is also John’s Mom’s 86th birthday. The Fox caught up with John McGale for a chat this week.
What twisted mind thought this up? How did they get the cat to stay on the Roomba for so long? So many questions, but this is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while.
The Fox was out delivering more free food smiles this month. We delivered a delicious lunch from Cecil’s Eatery and Beer Society to several local workplaces. Want a free lunch from Cecil’s and the Fox? Send an e-mail to email@example.com and tell us how many staff we’ll need to feed!
Woodstock legend Richie Haven died yesterday of a heart attack. He was 72. Havens made a name for himself when he played nearly three hours to open the Woodstock festival. He was supposed to be fifth on the bill, but had to go on early when other musicians got stuck in traffic. He made up his signature song, Freedom, when he ran out of songs to play.
